In a move to secure the immediate future of the Starting Pitching Rotation, the White Sox avoided arbitration with ace Javier Pinzon, signing him to a 4 year, $32.5 MM contract. "He has been with the franchise since the beginning and we wanted to let him know that we felt he is instrumental in our continued success going forward. You have to figure that his best years are still to come." stated Team Owner ratatat72. Pinzon has a career 47-15 record in 4 seasons with an ERA of 3.10. He has increased his starts and innings each of the past 3 seasons and is primed to challenge for the #1 SP spot with fellow LHP
Vic Rivera and RHP
Oswaldo Quevedo.
Andy Jefferies avoided arbitration, signing a 4 year/$27.0 MM deal that will keep the Sox Closer. Similar to Pinzon, Jefferies has been with the ball club since Season 1, and at age 27 still has many seasons left. Last season, he posted a 2-3 record, with 39 Saves in 46 Opportunities, sporting a 2.83 ERA and 0.99 WHIP, striking out 63 and walking only 12 in 63.2 Innings. He is currently the All-Time Saves leader at 164, 5 ahead of Anaheim's
Jon Dorsey.
Jimmie Phillips signed a 3 year/$18.0 MM contract to avoid arbitration for the upcoming season. Phillips went 8-6 last year, with 5 Saves in 82 games. He had a 3.97 ERA last season, striking out 104 batters in 118.0 Innings, while walking 38. He will serve as the RH Setup Man for Jefferies.
